Understanding Disabled
On the second day, I was blindfolded from morning till afternoon to get a glimpse of the life of a blind. We went out to the morning market and bought ingredients as we had to cook our own lunch. Some of us were wheelchair-bound, mute, no thumbs or one hand is disabled. People kept looking at us, wondering what were we trying to do. (That's what my friends told me, cause I couldn't see;p)
We managed to cook our lunch by helping one another. I couldn't cut food, but I could wash vegetables and did some easier tasks. I had to eat my lunch with the blindfold as well! The food still tasted nice, haha.
When the debriefing session started, we were finally released from all our "disabilities". Am so grateful to be able to see again. There's this thought that kept running in my mind as I was blindfolded : What if I never get to see again?
A sister, Chun Lian, from Double Blessing came and shared with us some knowledge in helping those who are wheelchair-bound. She herself is wheelchair-bound. She has a beautiful smile and I saw the peace and joyfulness in her. Danny who came together with her also shared his journey as he struggled through his life not able to walk at all. He is married as has children. I see how gracious God is in bringing him to know Jesus and transforming his life to be a blessing to others.
Though they have disablities, they never give up and their lives are shining like a light in the darkness. There are so much to learn from them.
The abilities to see, to talk, to hear, to walk, and etc seem very normal to us, yet there are people who never experience it. Do we ever take the time to thank God for these and ask God to use us to help those who are in need?
